Staples Names New Exec

Staples (Framingham, Mass.) has tapped Steve Matyas as president of North American retail.

“Steve has over 25 years of deep experience leading Staples Canada, and a proven track record of delivering profitable growth and innovation,” said Shira Goodman, interim ceo of Staples Inc., according to Retailing Today. “Realigning our retail leadership will strengthen our position as we continue to right size our store network and evolve to meet the changing needs of business customers.”

Matyas began working at Staples in 1991 when Staples Canada was called Business Depot Ltd. He subsequently held positions such as vp and worked in operations, HR and store planning; he also was formerly vp, sales and operations, and president of Staples Canada.
