Staples Stands Up For Office Superstores Everywhere

Ronald Sargent, coo of Staples Inc. (Framingham, Mass.), spoke up in defense of office-supply superstores today at the Robertson Stephens Consumer Conference in New York.

Recent predictions on the downfall of office-product stores to discount superstores incited the rebuttal. Sargent pointed out the success of stores like Staples in the last decade, explaining that despite strong competition, office stores make up approximately 20 percent of the market share and have no intention of losing it to deep discounters.
