Starbucks 'Express' Aims for Speed

Starbucks Corp. (Seattle) opened its first Express store in New York. The new model aims to provide faster service than a traditional Starbucks coffee outlet. Located in lower Manhattan, across from the New York Stock Exchange, the space is about one-fourth of the size of a typical Starbucks (just 538 square feet) and offers a pared-down version of the chain’s food and beverage menu, according to Reuters. The new model utilizes handheld ordering devices, which staffers use to move customers more quickly through the line. Four additional Express units are planned for 2015 — all of them in New York.

The coffee chain also announced, after the successful completion of its test program, the roll out its U.S. mobile order and pay service, according to Reuters, as well as an upcoming launch of delivery service in Manhattan and Seattle later this year.
