Talbots for Men

The Talbots Inc. (Hingham, Mass.), operator of 800 traditional women's apparel stores, has revealed plans to dip its toe into menswear.

At a keynote luncheon address during a business seminar, company president, chairman and ceo Arnold Zetcher said the men's line will be launched by a 24-page insert in Talbots'2002 Christmas catalog and followed by the opening of three men's stores in the spring.

The line will include sports coats and slacks, but not suits at the outset. One of the three new stores will be in the Boston area, the retailer's back yard. If successful, another three units would follow in the second half of 2003.
