Two days after Kmart Corp. (Troy, Mich.) pledged $1 million to storm-tossed Xenia, Ohio, Target Stores (Minneapolis) announced a commitment of $3,000 to the American Red Cross to help the storm's victims. The severe thunderstorm spawned at least one tornado, left one person dead and injured up to 100 others. Initial reports indicated 10 homes were destroyed and possibly 50 more were damaged, leaving hundreds of area residents in need of relief items and basic living necessities.
In addition to the $3,000 donation, Target volunteers from three Dayton-area Target stores — Beavercreek, Centerville and Trotwood – have been assisting with disaster clean up efforts.
“This is a difficult time for all those affected by the tornado,” said Gail Dorn, Target's vp of community relations. “As a community partner, we want to do our part to help the residents of Xenia.”
