Thieves Take Jewelry Safe and Leave It on Road in California Burglary

A safe was dragged from a jewelry store in Oakland, CA, on Thursday.

The thieves hit at Grand Jewelry Repair shortly before 4 a.m., using a crowbar to get inside. They tried once with a rope, which broke, and then tried again with a chain, the owners’ son, Christopher Tran, told KTVU.

KPIX-TV reported that there were five suspects in two automobiles.

They got the safe partially into a van using a winch. Eventually the safe, which was dragging the ground, fell onto a freeway off-ramp.

The safe contained jewelry and watches valued at about $300,000. The items were recovered.
