Value City Department Stores Inc. (Columbus, Ohio) has promoted John Rossler, currently president of Value City's Shonac Corp. and DSW Shoe Warehouse subsidiaries, to president of the parent company effective Feb. 3, 2002. Rossler has held positions with DSW and Shonac — including cfo, coo and executive vp — since 1982.

Current company president Alan Schlesinger will devote his full time to being president and ceo of Filene's Basement Inc., another Value City subsidiary. “This move will allow Alan to focus all of his time, energy and expertise on the growth of Filene's,” said George Kolber, Value City's ceo and vice chairman.

Value City Department Stores is an off-price retailer currently operating 118 department stores in the U.S., as well as 20 Filene's Basement stores and 104 DSW warehouse stores.
