ShopKo Stores (Green Bay, Wis.) has announced the introduction of new “Urbanology” shops designed to cater “to the fashion-conscious Generation Y trendsetters.”

“The Urbanology concept does something that ShopKo hasn't done before,” said Tom Abbott, divisional vp, accessories and intimate apparel. “Urbanology pulls together appropriate Gen Y products from throughout ShopKo's departments and places them into a single destination shop.

“There is incredible opportunity in the Gen Y market, especially with teenagers 13 to 17,” said Abbott. “Overall the Gen Y group is twice the population size of Gen X, and they are powerful and enthusiastic consumers, spending $275 billion a year.”

The 365-unit specialty retailer said the Urbanology shops will include mini-purses and denim bags, bright-colored backpacks, colorful toe socks, fashion jewelry, slippers and sleepwear, glitter CD stands, neon wall clocks, candles and furry pillows.
