Walmart Phases Out Toxic Chemicals

Walmart (Bentonville, Ark.) is taking steps to eliminate high-priority hazardous chemicals from its inventory.

The targeted chemicals have “certain properties that can affect human health or the environment,” Walmart said in a statement. “We have been asking our suppliers to reformulate their products to meet our expectations.”

According to Retailing Today, the eight chemicals include formaldehyde, triclosan, toluene, diethyl phthalate, dibutyl phthalate, nonylphenol exthoxylates, butylparabens and propylparabe, which are commonly used in household and personal care products.
