Workers Strike at Kellogg’s Cereal Factories

About 1,400 workers at Kellogg’s cereal factories have gone on strike after its union was unable to secure better benefits and more vacation time from the company, The Washington Post reports.

The work stoppage impacts Kellogg’s factories in Michigan, Nebraska, Pennsylvania and Tennessee that produce Rice Krispies, Raisin Bran and Frosted Flakes, the article says.

Union President Anthony Shelton told the outlet that Kellogg’s workers have been “working long, hard hours, day in and day out” to produce cereal, but that the company has responded by cutting benefits and threatening to send jobs to Mexico.

Kris Bahner, Kellogg’s Senior VP for Global Corporate Affairs, expressed her disappointment in the union’s decision to strike, saying the company had offered a contract that maintains “industry-leading levels of pay and benefits” and provides “significant increases in wages, benefits and retirement.”
