The Paradies Shops (an Atlanta-based airport retail group) understood the importance of visibility when opening Your Northwest Travel Mart in the Portland (Ore.) International Airport. The store, which offers locally made specialty foods in addition to typical airport merchandise, is well illuminated for a more spacious feel. Fruit murals, hand-painted on self-adhesive vinyl, draw attention to the store and camouflage a rear stockroom door. The central cashwrap doubles as a candy/newsstand and is reflected in the shiny granite floor, chosen for its durability and beauty.
