Nasty Gal Looking for Retail Site

Online e-tailer has new president, from Lululemon

Nasty Gal Inc. (Los Angeles), the online fashion retailer, is planning to open its first brick-and-mortar store.

Women’s Wear Daily reports that company founder Sophia Amoruso and Sheree Waterson, its new president and chief product officer, are looking for sites in Los Angeles for a store to open by the end of the year.

“One of the benefits of being online first and now going into retail is that we aren’t burdened with the legacy systems that big retailers have,” Amoruso said. “They [other retailers] are not going to know what hit them.”

Waterson spent five years as chief product officer at Lululemon Athletica Inc. (Vancouver, B.C.), leaving shortly after the company’s too-sheer yoga pants episode a year ago. At Lululemon, she spearheaded supply chain, merchandise and design.

“She had a great run and she was there for five-and-a-half years and built an amazing business,” Amoruso said of Waterson. “I don’t look at much more than that.”

Waterson fills a role previously held by Deborah Benton, Nasty Gal’s chief operating officer and president, who left the company last month.
