Buckhead Atlanta Open for Business

Much-anticipated shopping center faced obstacles

The $1.5 billion Buckhead Atlanta retail development has opened, seven years after its original developers broke ground. Ben Carter Properties (Atlanta) launched the original project, Streets of Buckhead in 2006. Citing economic concerns, would-be tenants including Hermès, Loro Piana, Etro, AG Jeans and Oscar de la Renta pulled out of the project, which remained at a stand-still until Oliver McMillan (San Diego) acquired the property in 2011.

The mixed-use development in one of the city’s most upscale neighborhoods currently has 75 percent occupancy. Stores opening this month include Hermès, Etro, Theory, Canali and Brunello Cucinelli. Scheduled to open in coming months are: Alice + Olivia, Bella Bag, Christian Louboutin, Dior, Helmut Lang, Tod’s, Jimmy Choo, La Perla, Bonobos, Intermix, Courage.b and Spanx. The eight-acre Buckhead Atlanta spans six city blocks and features brick-paved, pedestrian-friendly streets, upscale residences and lush landscaping, according to Women’s Wear Daily.
