Retailers lost about $30 million in sales on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, as a result of the blackout in the North and Northeast, according to a report by ShopperTrak. Unmeasured residual results were also being felt on Friday, August 15, as most but not all of the power returned to the affected areas.

ShopperTrak, which issues a weekly national retail estimate, based the decline on the average daily rate of sales, from $467 million on Wednesday to $437 million on Thursday.

In New York, 10 Macy's stores, including the 34th Street Herald Square flagship, and two Bloomingdale's, including the 59th Street flagship, were shut down from about 4 p.m. on Thursday until approximately noon on Friday.
