Albertsons to Close Seven Stores

Albertsons LLC (Boise, Idaho) will close seven unprofitable Texas stores in February, including five in the Dallas area. The company says it expects stores in Carrollton, Garland, Richardson, Plano and Southlake, Texas to close around Feb. 20, reports The Dallas Morning News.

“Over the last several years, we have put our best efforts into repositioning these stores to better compete in the market place,” says Albertsons spokeswoman Christine Wilcox. “Unfortunately, we haven't been able to do so,”

After the closings, the Idaho-based supermarket chain will operate 80 supermarkets in Texas, including 54 in Dallas-Fort Worth, according to The Dallas Morning News.
