American Eagle Expands in Mexico

American Eagle Outfitters (Pittsburgh, Pa.) is set to open its 18th store in Mexico since arriving in the country last year. While the majority of the retailer’s stores are located in large cities, American Eagle also plans to extend to secondary cities. The company will also continue to grow in Mexico City, where the greatest percentage of Mexico’s population is concentrated.

Miguel Flores, vp and country manager at American Eagle, says the company forecasts a total of 50 stores in the country. The brand was popular in Mexico before AEO opened its first doors, due to its products being distributed through boutiques and department stores.

AEO owns and operates all of its retail outposts. While Mexico is the company’s largest Latin American market, it also has expanded recently into Panama, Central America and Colombia through licensing partners, according to Women’s Wear Daily.
