Baskin-Robbins (Canton, Mass.) is expanding its national footprint with plans to open more than 30 new stores in the Greenville and Spartanburg, S.C., areas. The ice cream retailer operates more than 6000 stores in 35 countries and opened 600 stores globally in 2008. In the U.S., the company has 2700 locations.

The company introduced a new store model in 2009 called Cafe 31, which is being tested outside Boston. The concept operates as a high-end dessert bar with ice cream and coffee products. It also operates its traditional stores, which can support a drive-thru, and its BR Express, a kiosk design for malls, sports arenas, airports or other small co-branded real estate opportunities.

“By continuing our history of developing new product innovations and keeping our focus on customer service and business success for our franchisees, Baskin-Robbins is providing a completely new experience in 2009,” says Salman Siddiqui, vp, global business development, Baskin-Robbins.
