HIRINGS, PROMOTIONS AND APPOINTMENTS

Stein Mart Inc. (Jacksonville, Fla.), an off-price department store retailer, has appointed Robert Mettler to its board of directors. Now retired, Mettler is the former chairman/ceo of Macy’s West.

STORE OPENINGS

David Orgell (Beverly Hills, Calif.), a fine jewelry and specialty gift retailer, will move its flagship location from Rodeo Drive to the Two Rodeo shopping district in Beverly Hills in winter 2009.

BUSINESS BRIEFS

Bloomingdale’s (New York) has teamed with Young Indies Films LLC (New York) to commission the creation of five independent film shorts that will be shown in the retailer’s stores this fall as part of a fashion campaign dubbed “Lights; Camera; Fashion.” Bloomingdale’s shoppers will be able to vote for their favorite film via text message or on the company’s web site, and the winning director will receive a trip to Film Independent's Spirit Awards in Los Angeles.

Displ’aire Corp. (Rohnert Park, Calif.), developers of next-generation professional video display systems, has changed its name to pix2o.

AWARDS

Barbie Shanghai, the first store dedicated to the iconic doll, won a Good Design is Good Business Award of Excellence. The store, designed by Slade Architecture (New York), was the only retail outlet to win in the 12th annual awards program, which is sponsored by Business Week and Architectural Record. Chute Gerdeman Retail (Columbus, Ohio), a retail branding and design firm, designed two activity-driven experiences within the store.

Tai Wang, co-founder of WAC Lighting Co. (Garden City, N.Y.), has received the “Asian American Visionary Award” from the International Leadership Foundation.

Stephan Jaklitsch Architects (New York) announced it won a 2009 merit award from the New York State Chapter of the American Institute of Architects for its design of the MOSCOT flagship store on 14th Street in New York.
