Borders Joins Holiday Pop-Up Movement

Borders Group (Ann Arbor, Mich.) will open 25 seasonal Borders Express stores nationwide to serve customers during the holiday season. The stores will be begin opening in late October and operate through Jan. 31, 2011.

The locations will average about 2500 square feet and carry top titles and big new releases, Halloween and holiday-themed items, a selection of kids books, plush and toys as well as an assortment of e-Readers and related accessories.

“The majority of these stores are located in malls where we had a presence at one time,” says Mike Edwards, ceo of Borders Inc. “Where it didn't make business sense for us to operate stores on a permanent basis in these areas, we can open a seasonal store and serve the holiday shopping needs of our customers. We're thrilled to once again be part of these communities.”

Locations include: Scottsdale Fashion Square, Scottsdale, Ariz.; Valley Plaza Mall, Bakersfield, Calif.; Sunvalley Shopping Center, Concord, Calif.; Westfield Valley Fair, Santa Clara, Calif.; Perimeter Mall, Atlanta; Westland Mall, West Burlington, Iowa; Westfield Fox Valley, Aurora, Ill. ; Yorktown Center, Lombard, Ill.; Woodfield Mall, Schaumburg, Ill.; Emerald Square, North Attleboro, Mass.; The Mall at Partridge Creek, Clinton Township, Mich.; The Crossroads, Portage, Mich.; Ridgedale Center, Minnetonka, Minn.; Steeplegate Mall, Concord, N.H.; Fox Run Mall, Newington, N.H.; Moorestown Mall, Moorestown, N.J.; Hamilton Mall, Mays Landing, N.J.; The Mall at Short Hills, Short Hills, N.J.; Oakdale Mall, Johnson City, N.Y.; Poughkeepsie Galleria, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; Kenwood Towne Center, Cincinnati; The Mall at Robinson, Pittsburgh; Collin Creek Mall, Plano, Texas; Greenbrier Mall, Chesapeake, Va.; and Fox River Mall, Appleton, Wis.

The specialty retailer operates under the Borders and Waldenbooks nameplates.
