Checkers Introduces Updated Drive-In Design

Tampa, Fla.-based Checkers Drive-In Restaurants, which launched 25 years ago, has opened a new restaurant prototype in Mobile, Ala.

The format, designed by Columbus, Ohio-based Chute Gerdeman includes an update of the chain’s signature elements, such as the stainless steel banding, neon, checkerboard accents, red umbrellas and black, white and red color scheme. Most notable are a new sweeping, wing-style roofline, bright red columns and a bolder checkerboard pattern.

The new design also features a large family-friendly outdoor dining area under the right-side canopy. The order window is more prominently featured, keeping the walk-up guest in mind and menu boards are now positioned inside the window to help reduce visual clutter on the exterior.

“Throughout the new store design, the focus has been on improving the guest experience by providing a friendly, more efficient drive-thru experience,” says Chute Gerdeman’s vp of environments, Lynn Rosenbaum.

Rick Silva, Checkers Drive-In Restaurants ceo, says the new prototype’s field test will be run corporately for at least six months to ensure its a smooth rollout to Checkers’ franchise system.
