Chico's FAS Inc. (Fort Myers, Fla.) has named David Dyer president and ceo, succeeding Scott Edmonds. Edmonds informed the specialty retailer’s board of directors earlier this month that he is retiring and submitted his resignation as an officer and director of the company. Ross Roeder, currently the company's lead director, has been named non-executive chairman of the board.

Dyer is a former president and ceo of Tommy Hilfiger Corp. (Kowloon, Hong Kong) and Land's End Inc. (Dodgeville, Wis.). He has been on the Chico’s board since 2007.

The once-high-flying specialty retailer has encountered tough times lately, like most other retailers. It reported a 10 percent decrease in net sales for the five-week period ended Jan. 3, 2009. Same-store sales were down 12.4 percent. For the 48 weeks ended January 3, total net sales are down 8 percent and same-store sales have fallen 15.3 percent.
