Barnie’s takes its franchise to Indonesia

Published

Barnie’s Coffee & Tea Company Inc. (Orlando) has opened two new franchised stores in Jakarta, Indonesia. The stores are the chain’s first in the Asian market and reflect the continued expansion of Barnie’s outside the U.S. market. The company already operates stores in the Middle East with additional ones under development in Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and Guatemala.

In addition to its international expansion, the chain has added three new Barnie’s stores in the U.S. in the past month, with three additional stores scheduled to open before the end of the month.

“By the end of 2004, we will have tripled the size of the Barnie’s franchise system over what it was this time last year,” said Michael Daigle, the company’s executive vp, in charge of development. “We already have another 25 stores on the boards for the first quarter next year and expect to open approximately 100 stores in 2005.”

He added, “While we are proud of the growth, we are even more proud of the franchisees we have attracted. We have welcomed to the Barnie’s system some of the best operators that I have had the pleasure of working with in my 20 years in the franchise business. That speaks volumes to the strength of the Barnie’s brand.” The two new Indonesian locations are being opened by Tanto Kurniawan.

Founded in 1980, Barnie’s Coffee & Tea Company has grown into one of America’s largest privately held specialty coffee and tea retailers, with over 100 company-owned and franchised retail locations.
