Costco Corp. (Seattle) is making an electronic foray into China with an online flagship store on Tmall Global, the online shopping platform operated by Chinese retail giant Alibaba Group. Costco will merchandise food and healthcare products as well as products from the company’s proprietary Kirkland Signature label, according to Forbes. Costco hopes that widespread Chinese consumer demand for imported products will drive sales.

Tmall Global is part of Tmall.com, Alibaba’s business-to-consumer platform. The platform allows overseas brands without Chinese licenses to market and sell products on mainland China.
