Country Club Prep Debuts in Virginia

Online retailer Country Club Prep (countryclubprep.com) has opened its first brick-and-mortar store near the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Launched in 2012 for $3000 by cofounders Matt Watson and Stephen Glasgow, Country Club Prep is on pace to sell $5.5 million in apparel this year. The site carries 118 brands including Jack Rogers, Sail to Sable and Lauren James.

A second store, near the University of Kentucky campus in Lexington, will open next month. Country Club Prep's Watson told Women’s Wear Daily that it will target college towns and resort destinations, as well as New York and the Northeast, including Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket. The company plans to expand its merchandise categories to home goods including bedding and dorm room accessories.
