Design Profile

Fabhome, Hebbal, India

CONCEPTUALIZED AS THE next go-to for home decor, FabHOME, a segment of FabIndia, is half department store, half marketplace. With a comfy interior and an open composition, the store offers a breezy, stress-free experience to the growing population of families and young professionals in Hebbal, a suburb of Bangalore, India.

Spanning three floors and 13,000 square feet, FabHOME needed to be easy to navigate.

“With a plethora of products and brands available these days through various retail channels, curation has become vital,” says Sanjay Agarwal of Bangalore-based retail design agency FRDC. “People are also looking for a comfortable shopping experience.”

The floors, and the merchandise, are curated into various “home” categories, similar to a classic department store. Yet, the marketplace-like, open-floor layout invites guests to effortlessly flow between sections to browse or to grab and go.

As customers move through the store, furniture displays and mannequins encourage them to imagine the products in their homes. On the first floor, a café allows guests indulge their palates.

Soft white paint and dark orange tiles cover the store’s walls and wrap shoppers in a warm and comfortable atmosphere, ideal for a store devoted to the home. The intricately patterned wood paneling seen throughout FabHOME is an homage to traditional Indian art.

“FabIndia celebrates India and its aesthetics — the handmade and traditional techniques with contemporary elegance,” says Agarwal. “It also deeply believes in sustainability. To reflect that, we used natural tones, reclaimed wood and upcycled materials in the store.”

The natural colors and woods are balanced with chic industrial features such as exposed ceilings, metal embellishments and gray stone floors, adding a trendy flare and highlighting the openness of the space.

From its sprawling layout to the ornate details, FabHOME accommodates the varied needs of its modern clientele by mixing the comfort of home with easy, contemporary design.
