West Elm, a Williams-Sonoma Inc. (San Francisco) subsidiary and furniture retailer, is launching its West Elm Market concept, with plans to open the first store on October 25. The store will be located in West Elm’s Brooklyn, N.Y., headquarters.

West Elm Market will feature kitchen, garden and personal care items, including plants, biodegradable cleaning products, cookware and pantry products. The store will also include a café and a common area for classes and community gatherings.

“We were inspired by the common sense shopkeeping of the classic general store to develop a collection of genuine and useful household goods that make even the most practical chore a little more enjoyable,” said West Elm president Jim Brett. “The Market store is designed to be a place to gather, learn and connect.”

The Market concept will also debut in eight shop-in-shops, starting in Costa Mesa, Calif., on November 1, and launching in Dallas, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Nashville, New York, Seattle and Toronto on November 8.
