Management Changes:


Callison Architecture Inc. (Seattle architectural design firm) has hired Mark Henderson as associate principal to its healthcare team. Henderson was previously director for KMD's national healthcare practice.

ShopKo Stores Inc. (Green Bay, Wis., retail chain operator) has appointed Bill Hauck divisional vp, home textiles and sporting goods for the company's 141-store ShopKo chain.

MulvannyG2 Architecture (Bellevue, Wash., design firm) has made the following appointments: Michael Osburn, design manager; Robert Jaques and Y.E. Smith, design principals; and Michael La Fon, designer.

Arlon (Santa Ana, Calif., digital imaging media manufacturer) has named Gabriel Maxwell print technology product manager. Maxwell is responsible for working with screen and digital printers on new and existing markets and products.

Morlite Systems Inc. (Erie, Pa., division of JJI Lighting Group Inc., lighting designer and manufacturer) has named Claude Sarti vp and general manager.

MI (Farmington Hills, Mich., fixture, signage and p-o-p manufacturer) has appointed Calvin Myer to its board of directors. Myer was co-founder of Worldwide Co., a fee-based p-o-p supplier chain management services company, which later became Schwarz Worldwide.


Business Briefs:


Alkco Lighting (Franklin Park, Ill., lighting designer and manufacturer) has added two sales representative organizations: SESCO (Tampa/Ft. Meyers, Fla.) will cover West Central Florida, and The Schneider Co. (Greenville, S.C.) will cover South Carolina.

The American Institute of Architects New York Chapter has opened the Center for Architecture. The cultural institution, designed by Andrew Berman Architect, is in a former industrial space at 538 LaGuardia Place between Bleecker and West Third streets. The 12,000-square-foot facility houses galleries, a lecture hall, public resource center, library, meeting rooms and administrative offices. The center's inaugural exhibit, “Going Public,” is on display through Nov. 30, 2003, and features an overview of initiatives of the New York City Department of City Planning and an array of public works projects.

Atlaschi + Associates Architects Inc. (Marina del Rey, Calif., retail design firm) has been founded by principal architect Amin Atlaschi. Pionite (Shelton, Conn., high-pressure laminate products manufacturer) has added Aura Hardwoods Lumber Inc. as a distributor, covering San Francisco and its environs.

Indigo Palms Denim Co. (Seattle, division of Tommy Bahama, fashion brand) will open its first retail store in the Fashion Island shopping center in Newport Beach, Calif. in November 2003. The 2000-square-foot concept shop will feature the complete Indigo Palms collection in a setting that reflects the brand's casual lifestyle heritage.

Statoil Ireland (New York, subsidiary of Statoil ASA, convenience store operator) has contracted with GroupRed LLC (New York, retail design and consulting firm) on a two-phase project. First, GroupRed will upgrade Fareplay convenience stores to a full-service food program. Secondly, it will develop a new prototype for the Fareplay chain, including new architecture, liquor/beer/wine department and larger foodservice counter.


Awards & Competitions:


Eight Inc. (San Francisco design consultancy) was named winner of the Malama Learning Center's International Architectural Design Competition. More than 230 entries were received for the competition, which called for an efficient and sustainable design for a 25,000-square-foot center that would include an educational institution, nature conservancy study center, art center, dance studio, performance theater and community center.
