David Palachek, previously vp, brand manager, at Bank of America (San Francisco) — and a VM+SD editorial board member — is now director of visual merchandising with Smith & Hawken (Novato, Calif.), the provider of high-quality, garden-inspired products.

Smith & Hawken, which was founded in 1979, operates 56 stores throughout the U.S. as well as a comprehensive catalog and online at smithandhawken.com. It also extends its brand into other retail channels with its store-within-a-store concept in select, high-end garden centers across the country. In August 2004, the company, which is privately owned by investment boutique DDJ Capital Management, announced it entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by The Scotts Company, a manufacturer of lawn and garden products.
