German Retail Sales Gain

Slight rise prompts enthusiasm

Published

on

German retail sales rose a slim 0.8 percent in May 2008 over their April totals, but that was enough to signal a recovery in Europe’s largest economy.

German sales had fallen 0.1 percent in April and were predicted to gain 0.4 percent in May.

Other signs of a German economic recovery, reported by Bloomberg News, were an unexpected decline in unemployment and increases in consumer confidence and investor sentiment.
