Goody’s Names New President

Frederick Mershad ran Elder-Beerman, Proffitt’s

Goody’s Family Clothing Inc. (Knoxville, Tenn.) has named Frederick Mershad president and chief merchandising officer, effective today. Mershad will oversee the areas of merchandising, marketing and advertising, and merchandise planning and allocation, and will report to Goody’s chairman and ceo Robert Goodfriend.

Mershad, one-time chairman, president and ceo of Elder-Beerman Stores Corp. (Dayton, Ohio), was most recently an executive in residence for the School of Business, MBA program, at The University of Dayton. He began his career at Federated Department Stores Inc. (Cincinnati) and was also president and ceo of Proffitt’s Department Stores (Knoxville).

“Fred brings to Goody’s a wealth of exceptional experience and accomplishments in the retail apparel industry,” said Goodfriend. “During his career, Fred has demonstrated executive leadership and team building and possesses an exceptional understanding of the overall retail business.”

Reporting to Mershad will be Max Jones, executive vp, merchandising; Carmen Monaco, executive vp, chief marketing officer; and Bruce Halverson, senior vp of planning and allocation.
