Luxury brand to open more stores, brand shops

The Gucci Group (Florence) has expressed major plans for North American expansion.

Patrizio di Marco, Gucci’s worldwide president and ceo, recently told Women’s Wear Daily of intentions to add several U.S. stores after it opens at The Shops at The Bravern (Bellevue, Wash.) next year.

Di Marco said there will be four more freestanding stores in 2015, and six in 2016. The company will also renovate its Rodeo Drive store in Beverly Hills, Calif., and plans to return the second floor of its Michigan Avenue store in Chicago to retail.

And the 93-year-old Italian fashion brand will increase its brand shop presence in North American luxury retail partners such as Saks Fifth Avenue (New York) and Holt Renfrew (Toronto) – all with a goal, said di Marco, of surpassing $1 billion in sales in the region.

The North American business has been run, since January, by Christophe de Pous, president and ceo of Gucci America Inc., who had previously run Gucci Japan.
