Harry Le Grand Dies in Australia

Seasoned visual merchandiser and store developer was 51

Harry Le Grand, senior consultant of Myer Grace Bros. Stores'store development group (a subsidiary of Coles Myer Ltd., Tooronga, Victoria), passed away on July 25, 2001, at the age of 51. He had been with Myer Grace since 1994, involved with projects such as the revival of Myer Christmas windows and a published history of the windows. He organized the first “Urban Dream Capsule,” a continuous live performance of actors, in Myer windows for a Melbourne Festival.

Prior to joining Myer Grace Bros., Le Grand served as group visual merchandising and special events manager for David Jones Department Stores (Sydney) from 1981 to 1994. There he helped develop the current David Jones identity and coordinated promotional programs for holiday retail events, including the seasonal visual design and packaging.

Le Grand's motto for merchandising was, “The shop floor is the stage, and there's only one star on this stage: the merchandise.”
