Jo Malone London has opened a new Japanese flagship store in Tokyo’s trendy Harajuku district. Joining the brand’s 50-plus other stores it has opened in its 15 years in Japan, the latest space by the British purveyor of perfumes, candles, bath products, and room scents is its largest brick-and-mortar locale in the world.

Inspired by its British heritage, the brand’s focus on quality ingredients, beautiful craftsmanship, attention to detail, unique storytelling and meticulous service has always been been welcome in Japan, the retailer says. “The new Harajuku store draws on this synergy, as well as Japan’s reputation for forward-thinking design, encouraging a playful approach to discovering fragrance,” the brand said in a news release on the new store.

The 2,540-square-foot space puts an emphasis on hands-on exploration – whether through a cabinet of curiosities, or statement unique displays, such as an opulent-yet-imperfect chandelier and a bespoke interactive shell phone. In a nod to Japan’s youthful celebration of unique, individual style, there’s also a global preview of the brand’s new suite of personalization options, including:

• Select pieces exclusively designed for the Harajuku space with a limited-edition tote bag.
• Postcards designed by artist Amyisla McCombie.
• Two exclusive colognes inspired by Japanese ingredients that come in specially designed story boxes featuring kawaii illustrations.

The store is also home to a series of interactive installations, including a Cologne Intense Room and scented clouds spaces. In addition, it features a castle display designed by Academy Award- and BAFTA-winning artist Shona Heath.
Founded in 1990, Jo Malone London became part of The Estée Lauder Cos. family of brands in 1999 and is available in 82 countries and territories.
