Jonathan Adler Turning to Accessories

Plans to open three new stores in 2013

Home décor designer Jonathan Adler will expand his retail brand into the accessories world of handbags, scarves, neckties, socks and small leather goods.

This week, he is converting his store on Greenwich Avenue in New York’s West Village into an accessories-themed emporium. Two more accessories stores will open this year.

Adler has a total of 19 stores carrying his nameplate.

According to The New York Times, “the new store, much like the old store, is a delight to walk through and explore. The difference is that instead of many examples of Adler’s big-ticket furniture designs, there are displays of many totes and ties, which would look remarkably at home resting on a Jonathan Adler sofa.”

The merchandise includes key chains, scarves, straw hats, neckties, bow ties, and leather bags all carrying some form of a hexagon shape, which is a recurrent motif.

“As a designer, I’m very much a minimalist,” Adler told The Times. “But as a retailer, I’m pretty much a maximalist.”
