Michaels reports strong start in December sales

Michaels Stores Inc. (Irving, Texas), the nation’s largest arts and crafts retailer, announced that same-store sales were ahead of plan for the first 10 days of fiscal December.

Citing solid increases in customer traffic and average ticket prices, Michaels said it continues to expect December same-store sales to rise by 4 to 6 percent, with fourth-quarter same-store sales forecast to increase 3 to 5 percent.

Michaels Stores operates 849 Michaels stores in 48 states and Canada, 164 Aaron Brothers stores, eight Recollections stores and three Star Wholesale operations.
