Retailer's sales down in August, but up for past six months

Limited Brands (Columbus, Ohio) reported a same-store sales decrease of 2 percent for the four weeks ended August 30, 2003. Net sales were down less than 1 percent.

Same-store sales were up 1 percent, however, for the 30 weeks ended Aug. 30, 2003, and net sales increased 3 percent.

Among Limited Brands' subsidiaries in August, Victoria's Secret enjoyed an 8 percent same-store sales increase, and Bath & Body Works was up 2 percent. Express was down 10 percent and Limited Stores down 13 percent.
