Lord & Taylor (New York) has announced plans to build a new store in Albany, N.Y., returning to that market after eight years away.

The full-line, 100,000-square-foot store will open in the fall of 2014 in Crossgates Mall.

“Much has changed in the Capital Region since Lord & Taylor’s departure in 2005,” said Joseph Castaldo, general manager of the mall, “with thousands of new technology jobs at the neighboring College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering and at GlobalFoundries’ semiconductor plant in Saratoga County. The Capital Region also has one of the lowest unemployment rates in upstate New York.”

As reported in Women’s Wear Daily, Crossgates Mall is owned and operated by Syracuse-based Pyramid Management Group LLC, the largest privately owned shopping center owner and developer in the Northeast.

The new store will be the retailer’s 12th location in New York State and 49th in the U.S. Lord & Taylor is a division of The Hudson’s Bay Co. (Toronto).
