1. WORK OF ART
These windows were inspired by New York-based, Black female artist Lisa Hunt. With nods to traditional African and Eastern textiles, her designs directly impacted the wallpaper and bold patterning surrounding the apparel. Coinciding with the official opening of Macy’s Diversity and Inclusion teams, Hunt and her work was celebrated during the windows’ debut.
2. MOOD LIGHTING
Generating a sultry and relaxing tone, the illumination throughout this window series uses a system of individually controlled bulbs that operate within a set lighting program – each bulb can be adjusted to the preferred color temperature or brightness for a dramatic feel.
3. GILDED IN GOLD
Utilizing imitation Florentine gold leaf on digitally printed vinyl sheets, the material used on the floor and sides of the window displays includes “swirls,” Andi Woung, Manager, Flagship Windows, Macy’s (New York), explains, that are meant to imitate burnished gold leaf. The saturation was adjusted on some of the prints so the gold hue would pop.
4. MEET AND GREET
Placed purposefully to maximize the use of the reflective panels near them, the mannequins grouped throughout were dressed in solid-colored garments so their clothing wouldn’t visually conflict with the gold panels surrounding them.
5. ANOTHER LOOK
Crafted from gold mirrored acrylic laminated onto MDF panels, these reflective angled walls add a sense of depth. Woung likens it to the effect you experience when looking through a kaleidoscope, “…this is what we wanted to get a glimpse of,” he says, “mannequins walking though prints and reflections, and the customers’ reflections are drawn in as they pass by.”
