Finnish textile and clothing design company Marimekko is opening its own flagship store in New York, in the Flatiron District at 200 Fifth Avenue between 23rd and 24th Street.

The new flagship store is designed as an experience-rich meeting place to showcase its new products and is based on the same concept as the Helsinki flagship, which opened earlier this year. Both stores were designed by Japanese architectural firm IMA in cooperation with Marimekko's own shop design team.

“The store is the spearhead of our strategy for the United States. Its mission is to showcase the world of Marimekko at its best, offering its full scope to American consumers,” says president and ceo Mika Ihamuotila.

The brand launched its online operations this year and has six Marimekko stores inside Crate and Barrel home furnishings stores, with the intention to open 17 more.
