McDonald’s Japan to Close 74 Outlets

Business in the company’s second-largest market has slipped

McDonald’s Holdings Co. Japan Ltd. (Tokyo) has announced plans to close 74 outlets after cutting its full-year profit forecast by more than half.

The Japanese operation, roughly 50 percent owned by McDonald’s Corp. (Oak Brook, Ill.), is the retailer’s second-largest market with 3170 units.

Net income for 2013 is expected to be 57 percent lower than previously forecast, following five straight months of falling sales.
