Microsoft Corp. (Redmond, Wash.) is going forward next year with the retail push it began in 2013.

According to the web site, ZDNet.com, the computer company has already indicated the sites of its first three 2014 openings: Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga, Ont.; Westfarms in Farmington, Conn.; and Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus, N.J.

In 2013, Microsoft opened 35 branded specialty stores and now operates 83 throughout North America.

In 2011, Microsoft officials said the company planned to open 75 new Microsoft Stores in the next two to three years. A year later, the company updated the tally, saying Microsoft planned to have 44 permanent (and seemingly full-sized) retail stores in place by June 2013, the end of its fiscal year. There are still no Microsoft brick-and-mortar stores outside North America, in spite of rumored 2013 debuts.
