Retailer will kick off apparel collection with special displays

Eddie Bauer (Redmond, Wash.), the slumping specialty retailer that is a subsidiary of bankrupt Spiegel Group (Downers Grove, Ill.), will introduce a new apparel collection called Sport Shop.

Highlighting the introduction will be special displays featuring an Eddie Bauer Special Edition Sporting Trailer in 16 selection locations in the Chicago, San Francisco, Pacific Northwest and Washington, D.C., areas. The displays will appear between mid-August and mid-September, in support of a Sport Shop sweepstakes, an enter-to-win contest for the trailer or a two-year lease of a Ford Explorer.

“Our founder, Eddie Bauer, opened his first store in Seattle in 1920 to provide his friends and clients with quality products that would allow them to enjoy the outdoors,” said Engle Saez, senior vice president and chief marketing officer. “That spirit was the inspiration for the Sport Shop apparel and the related marketing efforts. We chose the Sporting Trailer because of its iconic nature that captures the imagination of everyone who dreams of creating their own sporting tradition.”

Sport Shop is a collection of casual wear, including rugby shirts, oxfords, sweatshirts, T-shirts and denim.

Though part of Spiegel's reorganization plan is the closing of several Eddie Bauer locations, the retailer still operates about 530 retail and outlet stores in the U.S., Canada, Germany and Japan.
