New Jewelry Boutique in Field's

Lindsay Cain's design-your-own-jewelry Femmegems shop to debut in fall

Marshall Field's, the department store division of Target Corp. (Minneapolis), has announced yet another new vendor shop for its Chicago flagship location on State Street: A Femmegens design-your-own jewelry boutique, created by jewelry-maker Lindsay Cain, will open in the fall.

Cain currently operates freestanding stores in New York's SoHo neighborhood and in Greenwich, Conn., as well as an in-store boutique at New York's Henri Bendel store on Fifth Avenue.

Cain said she was intrigued by Marshall Field's plan for the State Street store, which includes a thorough renovation and the placement of a number of internationally known vendor shops. The 100-square-foot Femmegens boutique will be located on the main floor.

“Femmegems is leading the trend of customization in better jewelry,” said Ralph Hughes, Marshall Field's regional director. “Our guests will be able to come in, select the stones and the style of the necklace or bracelet they want and then have the Femmegems designers put it together for them, all for between $15 and $400.”

Key to the success, according to Hughes, is Cain's broad selection of gems collected from around the world and her designer staff. “Each Femmegems design consultant has been thoroughly trained by Cain and can produce a wide variety of styles depending on customer needs and wants,” he notes. For clients who design their own pieces, Femmegems provides helpful suggestions and then aims to produce the finished pieces within 30 minutes. For those who prefer not to venture into the designer realm, Femmegems designers will replicate a picture or description of a special piece.
