Chain restaurant veteran Michael O'Donnell named president, ceo of Sbarro

Michael O'Donnell, formerly president and ceo for new business at Outback Steakhouse Inc. (Tampa, Fla.), has been named ceo, president and board member of Sbarro (Melville, N.Y.), the Italian quick-service restaurant chain.

O'Donnell replaces Mario Sbarro, who remains chairman.

At Outback, O'Donnell's responsibilities included Carrabba's Italian Grill, Fleming's Prime Steakhouse, and Roy's. He had previously served as president, coo and partner of Ale House Restaurant; chairman, ceo and president of Ground Round Restaurants, Inc.; and senior vp of operations for TGI Friday's.

Sbarro's chain includes 644 company-owned and operated units and 352 franchisee-operated units.
