Newsweek Ranks Kohl’s as Greenest Large Retailer

Nike, Starbucks among the Top 10 green leaders overall

After more than a year’s research with environmental researchers KLD Research, Trucost and CorporateRegister.com, Newsweek has issued its first Green Rankings of the nation’s 500 largest public-traded companies. Hewlett-Packard took the top honors in the overall rankings, but Nike and Starbucks both earned a place in the Top 10 as well. There was good news for Kohl’s in the industry break-out rankings. The department store chain was named the leader in the retail sector.

Companies were judged on “industry neutral metrics” such as their actual environmental performance, policies and reputation. The report pointed out that many companies do not track green data and even those that do don’t always use comparable standards
