The National Retail Federation (Washington, D.C.) named Philippe Houzé, executive chairman of Galeries Lafayette Group (Paris), International Retailer of the Year at its 104th annual convention, popularly known as the “Big Show.” The trade group recognized Houzé for Galeries Lafayette’s success and its track record of international growth. Galeries Lafayette will operate eight stores outside France by 2017, including upcoming stores in Istanbul this fall; Doha, Qatar, in 2016; and Milan in 2017. Existing international locations include Berlin; Dubai; Jakarta, Indonesia; Casablanca, Morocco; and Beijing.

In France, Galeries Lafayette will open an 86,000-square-foot flagship on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées in 2018. It will be the company’s second Paris flagship. Speaking to Women’s Wear Daily, Houzé said Galeries Lafayette’s plans center around four themes: international expansion, “reinventing” the department store, developing new formats and omnichannel retailing.
