As the holiday season kicks into full gear, several new retailers are introducing temporary store spaces in New York to further appeal to shoppers.

The Meatpacking District welcomed a Chanel pop-up store at Jeffrey New York that re-creates the feel of Saint-Tropez. The 1000-square-foot shop-in-shop includes a cafe with signature red lacquer tables and umbrellas, red Chanel awnings, dressing rooms that resemble beach cabins and stands stocked with postcards of Chanel’s cruise campaign featuring Georgia May Jagger. The boutique will be open through January 4.

Gap has partnered with award-winning publication Cool Hunting to create a pop-up store centered on showcasing New York design talent and craftsmanship. Located at Gap's 5th Avenue and 54th Street gallery space, the space offers a one-of-a-kind venue for limited-edition gifts including food, accessories and jewelry, as well as bikes. Special events and store music are also designed to highlight New York artists through January 2.

“We are so thrilled about this collaboration with the brilliant minds of Cool Hunting's editorial team,” says Marka Hansen, president of Gap North America. “Together with their partners, they designed and created an incredible shop that houses New York's finest, including pieces from some of the world's most exceptional artists, designers and craftsmen.”

Also noteworthy but a bit more permanent, Forever 21, which opened its Times Square flagship earlier this year, has opened a 45,000-square-foot unit on Fifth Avenue, in the space formerly home to Takashimaya.

The fast-fashion retailer has a temporary six-month lease on the space, reports Women’s Wear Daily. “We want to be on Fifth Avenue permanently,” Larry Meyer, Forever 21 Inc.’s executive vp told WWD. “We are focused on making this store work. We hope the economics work out.”

The Fifth Avenue store features a sixth-floor men’s department with a conveyor belt hanging from the ceiling for displaying apparel, a gray brick wall and vintage motorcycles.
