Polo Considering Separate Black and Purple Label Stores

New menswear lines are growing and might need space of their own

Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. (New York) is reportedly considering separate standalone stores for its Black Label and Purple Label lines.

According to Daily News Record, “as those labels continue to expand their reach, adding more product categories and offerings, the company is considering breaking them out as separate retail concepts.”

“We’re familiar with operating stores of different scales,” Wayne Meichner, recently promoted to president and chief operating officer of the fashion house’s retail group, told DNR. “The stores don’t get any bigger, so it’s all about choices. Do we trade up? Do we take apparel space away to focus on accessories?”

Although he stressed to DNR that “nothing is firmed up,” there is definitely “an opportunity in the right, largely urban markets for separate Black Label or Purple Label men’s stores.”
