This Window from WWI Era Puts “War Vegetable Gardening”on Display

THIS RETRO WINDOW promoting “war vegetable gardening” circa World War I, showcases a couple hard at work in their Liberty Garden, with the male figure toward the right wiping his brow with a handkerchief. From an issue of The Show Window and Merchant’s Record, one of VMSD’s former identities, the display was designed by George A. Smith for the U.S. Rubber Co. in New York – note the Revero brand hose.

In our upcoming November/December issue, VMSD will be highlighting its 125th anniversary in print with a comprehensive timeline, columns and other historic images. What’s your favorite VMSD-related memory?
