Retail Holiday Hiring Expected to Be Flat

Retailers, including Macy’s (Cincinnati) and Target (Minneapolis), have announced that holiday hiring is expected to be relatively flat compared to last year. For instance, Target plans to hire 70,000 in-store workers and Kohl’s (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) expects to hire 69,000 workers, which are both the same amount as those retailers hired last year. Macy’s said it plans to hire 83,000 temporary workers for the holiday season, which is a 2-percent decline from last year.

Retailers also are keeping their sales expectations and inventories low, reports Reuters, especially in case warm weather stalls sales like it did last year. The retailers are also facing competition from online retailers.
